WANDER
$65.00

Thoreau walked. Mary Oliver walked. They walked slowly, alone, and paid attention to what most people pass without seeing. Then they went home and wrote it down.

That is the entirety of what we will do today.

WANDER is a 90-minute slow walking experience on the trails of Fayetteville — unhurried, silent, and guided by a single practice: noticing. Not collecting, not photographing, not narrating. Just looking, listening, and letting the natural world speak at its own pace.

Twice during the walk we'll pause to write — a poem, a paragraph, a single sentence, whatever arrives. No prompts beyond the trail itself. No right answers. No wrong words.

You don't need to be a writer. You need to be willing to be surprised by what you see when you finally slow down enough to see it.

Limited to ten participants. Held in silence — not as a restriction, but as an invitation. Silence is how the trail gets a word in.

What to Expect

  • We meet at the trailhead. Before we begin, your guide will offer a brief introduction to the practice of slow walking — its roots in contemplative tradition, nature writing, and the simple, radical act of paying attention.

  • From the moment we step onto the trail, we walk in silence. Your guide will use gentle hand signals to invite you to pause, gather, or move on.

  • We walk at roughly half your normal pace — slow enough to notice what's underfoot, overhead, and at the edges. There is no destination. The walking is the destination.

  • At a natural resting point midway, we pause for fifteen minutes to write. A poem, a paragraph, a fragment, a list of what you noticed — any form is welcome. This is not a writing class. It is a listening practice that happens to use words.

  • The walk continues in silence before a final fifteen-minute writing pause at the close of the trail.

  • We end with an optional, unhurried invitation to read a line or two aloud — never a requirement, always a gift when it happens.

  • Bring a journal and pen. Wear comfortable shoes suitable for natural-surface trails. No experience is necessary.

  • Weather dependent. Registered participants will have the option to reschedule at no charge in the event of rain.
